Unmountable_Boot_Volume

October 17, 2004 - Dell Inspiron 1100

Problem:

Turn the computer, but Windows doesn't start. Blue screen that says: Unmountable_Boot_Volume

Diagnostic:
Run Dell Diag:
*error code: 0F00:0244 block 6651919 uncorrectable
*data error, or media write protected
*error code: 0F00:1A44 same msg.

Probable Cause:
* The file system is damaged and cannot be mounted

Resolution:
Requirement: A bootable winxp Cd or the six XP floppy boots (www.bootdisk.com)

1. Change the BOOT SEQUENCE in The BIOS to make the
CD ROM(or the floppy as the case may be) a first BOOT OPTION. Save and Exit

2. Insert the BOOTABLE XP CD or DISK1 and BOOT the PC

3. With the floppy follow the instructions and insert the other floppies when asked till you get to the Setup Welcome Screen . But with the CD it should take you to the Windows XP Setup WELCOME Screen

4. Press R for RECOVERY CONSOLE

5. TYPE chkdsk /r and ENTER

6. TYPE chkdsk /p and ENTER

7. TYPE fixboot

8. Reboot your computer

NOTE:
Installation or deletion of a new software could be the reason for mal functioning of you computer, if you get the same error again, please make a note of any new software installed or used on the computer.
